Attorney General’s Office promises an in depth investigation in the killings of 72 migrants.

The federal Attorney General’s Office is taking over the investigation of the killings of 72 migrants at a ranch in the northeastern state of Tamaulipas because the case involves federal crimes, the Mexican government’s security spokesman, Alejandro Poire, said.

“The Attorney General’s Office of the Republic has decided to take over the investigation in the next few hours to ensure a proper investigation and bring those responsible to justice,” Poire told a group of foreign correspondents on Saturday.

The government has expressed its condolences to the governments of Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador and Brazil since the victims identified so far were from those countries.

Disciplinary action is a never-ending story for law enforcement community.

Argentina’s Federal Police open an internal investigation “every 24 hours” against a member of the force for allegedly committing some “serious administrative error” or crime, the local press reported Sunday.

“This year, we’re talking about, on average, disciplinary action being taken against one policeman per day for serious administrative errors. That is to say, crimes that they should have been fighting,” a source with access to the files of the Federal Police’s Internal Affairs Division told the daily La Nación.

The source estimated that “if the current projection continues, before December there will be more than 300 inquiries opened.”

Argentine Justice and Security Minister Julio Alak said, “every time an irregularity has been detected it’s been the Internal Affairs Division that has made the appropriate complaint” and he added that the force “has been purged a lot.”
